Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my brakes inspected?

At least once a year for most drivers, or every time you rotate your tires. If you drive aggressively, haul heavy loads, or notice any unusual sounds or sensations when braking, bring your vehicle in sooner.

How long do brake pads typically last?

It depends on the type of pad, your driving habits, and the conditions you drive in. Most brake pads last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles, but city driving with frequent stops will wear them faster than highway miles.

Can I just replace the pads without replacing the rotors?

Sometimes, yes. If your rotors are within spec and show no significant scoring or warping, pad replacement alone may be sufficient. We measure your rotors during every brake inspection and give you an honest recommendation.

What’s the difference between squealing and grinding brakes?

Squealing is often the wear indicator built into the brake pad telling you the pads are getting low. Grinding usually means the pads are completely worn and the metal backing is contacting the rotor. Grinding should be treated as urgent.

Is it safe to drive with the brake warning light on?

It depends on which light is on and why. Some warning lights indicate low fluid, others signal a problem with the ABS system. Either way, we recommend having it checked promptly rather than waiting to see if it clears on its own.
